I miss Jason Polan too, but it’s past time to bring in a new artist to whet our appetites with monthly “wacky” clues.
They could go back to the pre-Polan clues, which were like clip art of animals kind of related to the title being teased, with a speech balloon saying something like "Coming this fall in 4K."

It feels like there was a notable vibe shift in the company when Polan died. I'm probably working backwards from a conclusion, but the Criterion that put out the New Year's clue was different somehow.
Criterion also offered hints besides the great Jason Polan. The clues using screenshots of monitors with films they are working on have also disappeared and pics of posters or artwork in their office as well. Now the only clues seem to be a person related to a film they are releasing that makes a public announcement either at a Q&A or on social media

I like how everyone asking for clues from Criterion ignores that Bressonaire has taken on this function with his "Which two of these five titles will be announced" game every time he posts in here
But yes, I miss the New Years Clues. Maybe Criterion doesn't do it anymore because they have too many films licensed and no longer have a clue what they'll get to in the next year....

It is clear that all of our ages are showing, but here I am still holding my booklet that says
Peppermint Frappe is Coming Soon, so
Like Domino said, I think the company's priorities are elsewhere, and the thrill (and those staff members who cared about clues) is gone (bbking.gif) I'll take bressonaire over any of Arrow's "hints" any damn day.
Meanwhile, it's always possible that:
Girlfriend's Day UHD

Juzo Itami: You Gotta Pay & Pay & Pay Box (
A Taxing Woman / A Taxing Woman's Return / The Gentle Art Of Japanese Extortion) BD

pianocrash's post only looks like a joke now. In two years, all of those formats will exist for a $129 Vinegar Syndrome deluxe edition of, I don't know, Beverly Hills Ninja?

I wonder what the hell took so long with this one. It won’t happen, but I’d love for it to feature an interview with producer Penelope Spheeris, who calls working with Albert Brooks on this and Saturday Night Live as being an absolute nightmare

My guess is the wait for REAL LIFE was tied to getting all the SNL shorts. Maybe.

So, looks like Criterion still has a relationship with Paramount, or is this left over from a previous arrangement? If so, maybe Paper Moon, Hud, and Catch 22 are still on the horizon?

Paramount have become extremely friendly to licensors in recent years after the spate of taking titles back in around 2020, wtih active large deals with Kino and Arrow ongoing. Criterion already released Days of Heaven and Trainspotting as part of this new arrangement.

I was sadly very very wrong. I guess Lorne owns all those.

There are a lot of SNL/Broadway Video-owned shorts that I wish could be licensed. Todd Solondz made a very elusive one that I’d love to get

I can't find the post but I believe Kino recently confirmed that they are putting out
Hud.

FWIW, when Rhino Records was putting together their box set of the Replacements'
Tim ("The
Let It Bleed Edition"), people asked why the infamous SNL appearance wasn't included. The producer said they tried but licensing those SNL clips would've blown their entire budget. So I'm guessing barring some kind of privileged deal the show (or Michaels) may extend to particular individuals, licensing SNL material is extremely expensive.
