Hey, they hired a director who respects women! Good move.

They say at the end of the article that the Tarantino movie is still happening though, so shouldn't these be two separate threads (the latter of which will never see another post after today)?

Yeah swo, I literally saw that at the moment you posted. Fixed/split. When I saw that QT was exec producing and the phrasing of TWBB's post, I just assumed this was handed off, whoops! All settled now, we can let this thread die on the vine

Nothing he could write and direct could possibly be worse than Star Trek: Into Darkness right?
Right?
Right?

Sorry I had to throw him in there as the contrast was too absurd to ignore. Lesson learned on who beats who to the green light when two people release their respective best and worst efforts in the same year.

People are engaging in some pretty impressive verbal gymnastics trying to defend the director choice on social media, including by saying that Lucy In The Sky was either underrated or only bad because Disney meddled with it (ignoring, of course, the fact that it was universally reviled for its ill-received directorial flourishes).

But he's the only person with recent experience directing in space

I’d imagine that his loyal fanbase have goggles on- after all they can point to it as an outlier. Legion and Fargo are very impressive creative projects, and I could see him applying these skills to a more suitable sci-fi effort, one with more narrative flexibility. Who knows, maybe he’ll make a good, wild Star Trek film. Still, it’s funny that he’s in like flint so quickly after that bomb.
