Is it not just a link to the Facebook page for the film? I can’t see what production company is after the copyright notice

You could be right, it's too tiny to make it out clearly but there's no studio logos so I just wonder what's what - unless it's the international poster/trailer, which I guess is possible. But those are pretty prominent Facebook and Instagram logos!

If any US distribution picked up the film, it would work against Amazon’s legal argument (even though I think many US distros would be happy to pick it up at Amazon’s no doubt reduced rate if they really wanted to recoup some of their investment), so I suspect there is still no stateside release because Amazon doesn’t want there to be

Facebook would be one of the only U.S. media companies reviled enough to pull off picking this up without too much more guff than they already take on a million fronts already - it'll be inane Steph Curry and Tom Brady reality shows and Woody Allen films. I'd take it.

Wow, I assumed that apart from the ordeal of getting to see this thing released it was going to be another bad Woody Allen movie-but this looks really good. Beautifully photographed too, not that I’m shocked though.

I will never understand owning an umbrella. Also cosign with Mfunk on that line.

We have lost or broken most of our umbrellas, but it's still an essential thing to own unless you can park your car in a garage or whatever

What an excellent trailer, filled with gorgeous images and incredible charm. This really does look like it could be the greatest Allen film of the decade. Storaro's cinematography is astonishing and the cast is perfect. Ugh, can't wait.

Wow, I apparently watched the same trailer as everyone else here but my most positive impression was that it doesn't appear to be a disaster so much as reheated leftovers. Even Storaro's cinematography, while beautiful, doesn't strike me as nearly as inventive as his work on Wonder Wheel.

Hard agree on the the cinematography - looks a little too vaseline-y for my taste and Wonder Wheel looked absolutely perfect for what it was/what Allen needed to pull it off (which I would, in the minority, argue that he did).
As for the film itself: even if this is limited to being another Anything Else or something, that's plenty for me.

Well, perhaps I went in with the lowest possible expectations, but I still think my impression is genuine. There’s a lot of interesting things going on in this trailer, and a movie about movies always has me hopeful.
As for Storaro, he was absolutely the best thing about Wonder Wheel, and Cafe Society.

This looks really good - the trailer made me laugh (for a change!). Looks like he's reworked that little bit at the beginning of Scoop (with the aspiring journalist being bedded by a famous star she's trying to interview) and some of the To Rome With Love storyline with Penelope Cruz (where a young couple gets separated in a new city and end up with other people quickly - the man with a shapely hooker and the woman with a famous male celebrity, etc). Either way, it looks like a major improvement on both ideas and has serious potential to be one of the better films from Woody in a while (especially for a romantic / comedy piece - since, what, Vicky Cristina Barcelona?).
Looks great. Really looking forward to seeing this... somehow.... seeing that I'm in North America where Amazon is trying to pretend in court that people don't want to see this while it is literally picked up just about everywhere else for prime awards season release.

Entertainment Weekly with a whopper of a stupid headline: "Woody Allen released a trailer for his movie that may never get seen"
Someone got paid to write that!

Hopefully someone will have the courage to release it here. But I'll be surprised if it happens

Re: A Rainy Day in New York (Woody Allen, 2019)
I doubt it will be any controversy over Woody Allen's personal life that keeps potential distributors at bay.
All the major specialty distributors are part of larger companies that are either currently producing or have projects in development for Amazon' and aren't going to risk impairing that relationship.
I would have put money on A24 but they signed a deal with Apple+ to produce exclusive content and I doubt they would (or could) pick up a film produced by Amazon even if it's being divested.
I suspect this will wind up at Neon or Bleeker Sreet, or even IFC. Woody could even end up just self distributing the film to make a point.

Louis CK's got a website flapping in the wind where he could sell it.Woody could even end up just self distributing the film to make a point.

And apparently, according to my dad, WA is shopping around his memoirs or something and publishers won't even read them!

It’s all so bizarre. Especially when you consider all of this has been known for 27 years now. Publishers are actually leaving money on the table now because they’re scared of...Twitter I guess?Randall Maysin wrote: ↑Tue May 21, 2019 5:20 amAnd apparently, according to my dad, WA is shopping around his memoirs or something and publishers won't even read them!
American liberals (the only people here who care about WA either way) are going through a “thing” these past couple of years. It’s been very strange, particularly when I talk to European friends who are just constantly perplexed.
