I was expecting a Digipak like the Outlaw Gangster set.

Re: Arrow Cover Art & Packaging Babble-on
I believe it's been quite a long time since their last multi-movies digipack.
I wish however Arrow use slimcases all the time for this kind of boxsets. Their Jia Zhangke uses 3 regular Amaray, which takes up quite some shelf space, but I guess slimcases are often perceived by the general audience as of lower quality (plus, a bigger set is more impressive).

...you want a set of two slimlines and a booklet? That seems like a pretty flimsy assortment for £40.

Shelf space being what it is these days, I'll take slimlines wherever I can get them.

That's what I wrote above : I guess slimcases are often perceived by the general audience as of lower quality.Ribs wrote:...you want a set of two slimlines and a booklet? That seems like a pretty flimsy assortment for £40.
But as swo said : I'll take slimlines wherever I can get them. And I don't care myself for how having slimcases instead of regular in a £40 boxset.
On top of them, with Arrow's current space, it'd be in their favor to help their customers buying all they can from them without having to care about shelf space.

I don't mind Amarays being used, especially for smaller sets, but I also see the benefit of slimmer cases. Two of my favourite sets from last year were Four Film Noir Classics (Arrow Academy) and Buster Keaton: Three Films (MoC), and in both cases they wisely decided to use slimmer cases.tenia wrote:That's what I wrote above : I guess slimcases are often perceived by the general audience as of lower quality.Ribs wrote:...you want a set of two slimlines and a booklet? As for Arrow's Jia Zhangke set, I can see why they opted for three Amarays to fit the 8 discs in, but I perhaps would've done it differently - slim cases, like the Four Film Noir Classics set, and 2 discs per case. That would presumably mean producing artwork for the Walter Salles doc (which would be simple enough), but maybe it's more to do with Amaray cases being cheaper and/or easier to replace?
Either way, I'm glad Arrow are finally resisting the urge to do digipack packaging. Miraculously, my copy of the Outlaw: Gangster VIP set from the Christmas sale showed up in mind condition, but I've had trouble with that kind of packaging before (generally from BFI, who use them quite often). Though I'd like to save on shelf space, in the case of premium box sets I don't mind that much (though MoC could've done their Keaton shorts set in just two Amarays rather than three).

Re: Arrow Cover Art & Packaging Babble-on
I still think that despite being the size of a small nation-state the Rivette Collection's layout with individual digipaks inside a case is by some margin the best looking arrangement for an Arrow set. The only other release from them I have in that style is the Long Good Friday/Mona Lisa LE, so I assume it's just out of the window (as it probably should be, as the discs are not exactly secure anyway).

Re: Arrow Cover Art & Packaging Babble-on
Actually yeah, I agree the digipacks can be done well. Donnie Darko LE was very nice, as was the Hoskins set (I don't yet have the Rivette set). I think it's just the fold-out digipacks that are more of a problem, and the thinner card box used to encase them (the ones we've both mentioned come in hardbound card boxes).

Re: Arrow Cover Art & Packaging Babble-on
I sorely wish one disc releases without booklets came in the ultra-thin cases that Gaumont use for their a' la demande imprint. They seem to be about a third or maybe two-fifths of the width of a standard DVD case.swo17 wrote:Shelf space being what it is these days, I'll take slimlines wherever I can get them.

I wish Arrow would diversify the covers for their giallo.
All these are pretty meh, Malformed Men is nice but I don't for a moment believe that the film continues that prettiness.

Distant Voices has the drawing style of a 1980s hair salon poster and the color scheme of a Colgate ad. Whoever designed that should be dragged through the street and flogged.

Re: Arrow Cover Art & Packaging Babble-on
The covers for Children of Men are ghastly - why would the reverse not be literally the only poster/image I’ve ever seen used for it?

Yes, the Cuaron new cover is awful, and the reverse one isn't my favorite either. I still simply prefer the Universal one.

Re: Arrow Cover Art & Packaging Babble-on
I was getting annoyed that no one posted the cover but were taking about it. Now I'm more annoyed that someone posted the cover. What the fuck? Arrow needs some new art directors/artists

Is there a revers image for Distant Voices I have to close my eyes and clench my teeth each time I scroll through this page
