The Dirt, based on the best-selling book by Motley Crue. I don't like their music I'm sure anymore than anyone else here, but I'm kind of interested in seeing how this is received. If it's true to the book, and especially in the aftermath of how Bohemian Rhapsody basically Disney-fied Queen's story, this could actually be quite good.

I say this without any hint of irony but the Motley Crue autobiography is one of the most disgusting things I've ever read. You won't believe what smells you can cover up with tacos!

Russian Doll

What a show.

The Groundhog Day/Happy Death Day comparisons get pretty left behind about 3 episodes in.

It's sorta occupying middle ground between NBC's The Good Place and, like, David Lynch.

The writing and direction are quite good and Natasha Lyonne is really great in the lead role.

Based on how humorous the show is for the majority of the time, I was not at all prepared for how legitimately weird and unsettling (and also touching) the last couple episodes are.

Apparently a couple more seasons are in the works but it's kind of hard to imagine, even if the ending of this season is certainly open enough for it. Nonetheless, sign me up.

It's in ten parts, but I've started The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann - which will either be very thorough or very dragged out because there's no new information besides what we already know. For those who don't know, Madeleine is a young girl who was taken from her parent's apartment in Portugal on holiday. Her parents were at dinner with friends and they checked in every 20 mins - and she was taken during one of those gaps. This was 2007 so it's one of the longest and most publicised missing cases in the UK. I'm sure the police in charge will be questioned, the parents will be questioned....who knows? This true crime stuff is becoming Netflix's wheelhouse at the moment....will it be in bad taste?

I watched the first episode and won't bother with the rest. Found it incredibly tedious and, yes, drawn out - they even have an extended digression about the history of the region as a tourist destination that has next to nothing to do with the case under discussion.

Haha yes, that seemed like padding beyond the extreme. Hmm, how did these undeveloped Portuguese fishing villages suddenly become a magnet for Brits?

They could've edited this down to a couple of hours for an overview and as there are no sudden bombshells to reveal, it's what you could glean from Wikipedia.

I didn't finish all 8 episodes, but Losers is a nice little gem.

Lukas Moodysson's new show Gösta starts filming
Vilhelm Blomgren makes his TV drama debut in the eight-part series written and directed by Lukas Moodysson for Memfis Film.

In Moodysson’s upcoming TV series, he plays 28-year old child psychologist Gösta who gets his first job in a small rural town. He wants to be the kindest person in the world and help everyone he meets, but it doesn’t always go according to plan.

Amazon and Netflix are two companies that must realize how intertwined they are with how people live their lives now, and as a result we're probably going to see Prime and Netflix streaming increase like crazy over the next few years

Thing is, I remember reading Netflix was heavily in debt. Wondering how long they can sustain that

I'm not finding any reports of new price increases, which is unusual since they've previously been a very big deal. I see some people on Twitter upset about increases on their latest bills, but the increases in question are in line with the ones already announced in January, which were implemented immediately for new subscribers but were to be rolled out "over the next few months" for existing subscribers. So these may well be "new" increases depending on the subscriber, but they don't seem to be previously unannounced increases.

Yeah, I posted this after receiving an email this morning telling me that starting next month there will be a price bump and “explaining” why (SPOILER: All that “great Netflix original content” costs $$$)— it was aligned with my renewal date, so depending on when yours is, you’ll prob get one too soon

I'm getting a year of free 4K Netflix because of switching Fios addresses so I'm feeling particularly warm and fuzzy about them for the next year since I won't be billed for a while. I fully expect the price to be around $20 a month by the time I get to the end of it, though.

(Not sure if this is the correct thread for this...) Anybody else watching The Act on Hulu? I was leery that this would just be a piece of tabloid exploitation, but it's quite well made and genuinely chilling in spots. It's much savvier and clearer-eyed than, say, a similarly-flavored movie like Room, which I found to be unredeemably manipulative misery-porn. I appreciate the attempt to contextualize the story of Dee Dee and Gypsy through references to Disney, children's films, and other forms of media and pop culture (Twilight, superhero comics, Bravo reality TV programming, YouTube make-up tutorials, etc.), a toxic diet that little Gypsy consumes and absorbs as steadily as the blend of food and drugs that get pumped into her feeding tube. I was also impressed with the show's unwillingness to really go dark; at about the Episode 4 mark it really steers into surreal horror-movie territory (complete with Argento-influenced shots of the main character dressed in Disney-princess garb seen through lurid red-and-blue gel lighting, etc.). Oh and the story is sheer batshit insanity.
