From before:

Looks like this will be an ongoing thing - to offer sales based upon the Hulu+ theme of the week. Wonder if they'll ever do any new releases (though it would be limited to Janus titles). Either way, seems like a rather interesting idea.

Now:

Week 2 of Hulu+ tie-in sales, and we get the following:

Good Morning
Complete Vigo (I assume both Bluray and DVD)
Ratcatcher
Murmur of the Heart

I guess I can delete and re-post/edit this as the new sale arrives - for those interested.

It does indeed work for the Blu also.

This week's 50% off Hulu tie-in

Bear in mind that The Blob should be getting a Blu-ray upgrade shortly.

This week's 50% off theme is "lady ghosts." I suspected last week's selection was partially to unload old stock of The Blob before the new edition gets released. I wonder if this means the Kwaidan upgrade is finally happening too. Or perhaps an Ugetsu blu.

Their Facebook page says to check out five of their favorites, but I'm only seeing four (Ugetsu, Kuroneko, House, and Kwaidan). Anyone know if there's supposed to be a fifth as well?

Fuck, I thought it was "ghastly ladies" and I'd be able to get Tiny Furniture for 50% off. :(

(come at me, VanDerWerff, I dare you)

VanDerWerff would win, because you'd just fall back on the "why can't anyone take a joke???" routine.

This week's Hulu Special has a whopping two titles available at 50% off (why, that's almost three titles!).

Criterion doesn't have streaming rights for Make Way for Tomorrow (it is a Universal film), so it isn't eligible for the Hulu deal.

Probable but not necessarily so. Brute Force is also an Universal title and is up on Hulu. It is also possible that they just haven't got around to putting it up yet.

Brute Force was licensed from Upcoast Film Consultants, Inc. not Universal

The licensing info on the Brute Force page says Universal Pictures.

not that this really matters, but here is a scan of the back of the Brute Force DVD
Image

In the licensing note it says "Under exclusive license from Upcoast Film Consultants Inc. © MCMXLVII by Universal Pictures Company, Inc."

I don't know how Upcoast came to own Brute Force, but they do. (Brute Force and Naked City just don't fit in with the rest of their catalog.)

I think that's a copyright you're seeing.

I don't know who Flying Lotus is so the Top Ten list he did is probably not the troll post I wish it was.
