Shelf Help

#1 Post by criterionsnob » Mon Aug 07, 2017 9:58 pm

This tweet shows a picture of a DVD library in the Criterion offices. This could mean nothing, but on the right, there are some older releases of what could be possible forthcoming titles. I can make out a copy of Shampoo, and (I think) Bringing up Baby. Does anyone recognize anything else? There is also an old Pagnol DVD.

I spy a copy of Sony's Safe and Ford at Fox / Murnau/Borzage boxes up top

EDIT: And one of Universal's Glamor sets (could be Deitrich, Lombard, or West)

SECOND EDIT: I don't believe that is Safe after all

That Almodovar box set has never been released before.

BFI's Napoleon is in the bottom shelf, a bit banged up (as most copies that crossed the Atlantic were).

Here's an embiggened, slightly sharpened version of the actual shelves:

This is like an eye test designed by a sadist, but I do spot MoC's The Passion of Joan of Arc, This is Spinal Tap, and sex, lies, and videotape.

Look a little closer, it's actually Monkeys, Monkeys, Ted & Alice.

I approve of that reference, TNR. The white case DVD three down from Bringing Up Baby is a Fox Studio Classics title (remember those?), but I can't make out which one

Is the bottom shelf possibly the titles they're finished with? Napoleon's the exception, but there's the Pagnol disc, Lone Wolf & Cub, and I think the Warners Being There. (This could be an indicator that Napoleon's release has been shelved)

The other white-case DVD next to what domino is saying appears to be the Universal's 100th anniversary edition of The Breakfast Club, and I think the Blu-Ray next to it is also The Breakfast Club.

And that's The Awful Truth at the head of the second shelf.

I believe you're right, esp since none of the Fox titles fit the character spacing

I think the three white spines in a box are the U.K. Dietrich set, which would make the Universal Glamor box also probable for Deitrich: Dietrich & Von Sternberg set coming?

...that is an insane pull.

Anyone have any guesses about the six matching DVD cases on the top shelf? That's the one really throwing me off.

This is probably just be me spit-balling, and the top part of the spine is giving me some pause, but the one next to the six identical-looking DVDs might be a UK DVD of A Scanner Darkly.

Does anyone know what the black DVD between Bringing Up Baby and The Breakfast Club is? Looks like a Warner release.

The spine on the other(?) side reminds me of the Second Sight Ophuls DVDs, but it looks to be a Blu-ray, so dunno

What's the WB Blu-ray next to L'argent on the bottom shelf?
